PRINCE GEORGE– Chinese New Year is being celebrated throughout Asian communities across the world this weekend.

Here in Prince George, there are a few celebrations taking place to ring in the year of the rat. The Chinese New Year takes place on Saturday, Jan.25th, 2020.

The Exploration Place will host fireworks on the evening of the 25th at 8 p.m., where you’ll be able to watch them from the museum’s parking lot or lay out a blanket on a patch of grass if it’s not too cold out.

“Chinese New Year is a very important day for our Chinese culture, this marks a new year and a new beginning so we want to celebrate together.”–Vicki Larsen, President Chinese Benevolent Association

The Chinese Benevolent Association is hosting a New Year’s Party at China Cup on Sunday, Jan.26th at 11:30 a.m. Non-Member adults can enjoy the buffet for $17 and children for $12. Entertainment will be available along with door prizes.

This is the second year the Chinese Benevolent Association will donate Chinese food to Guru Nanaks Free Food Langer, in support of the less fortunate in our community.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year is celebrated in other Asian countries like Japan, and Korea.
