OTTAWA– Greenpeace has issued a statement in response to the arrests made by law enforcement of Indigenous Land Defenders and solidarity protesters that began last week.

In the statement, Greenpeace says that Canadians have shown their support for the Wet’suwet’en people “who are being forced to put their lives on the line in an effort to protect their territory and their rights,” occupying government buildings and even going as far as blocking rail service

“People across Canada are right to be disturbed by what the B.C. Civil Liberties Association and Union of BC Indian Chiefs have called expanding and unreasonable powers of the RCMP, who are criminalizing Land Defenders, denying Indigenous Peoples access to their territory, and limiting media freedom to document the raids,” read the statement.

Earlier today (Feb.10) protestors blocking several entrances to the Port of Vancouver and at DeltaPort were arrested as RCMP enforced their court injunction.
