PRINCE GEORGE – It was crunch time for 18 Southridge Elementary School students, as they prepare for a major contest in Victoria this weekend.

It’s the First LEGO League Robotics Club and this is the first time Southridge is involved. Two teams have built Lego robotics using EV3 technology. They have programmed the robots to carry out specific tasks with a limited time period.

“We get to learn how to code, engineering, teamwork and a bunch of ways to just have fun,” said Parker, who joined his classmates in putting in at least 250 hours since September on the project.

Another set of students are working on different presentations. Under the “City Shaper” theme, one Southridge research group is looking at environmental sustainability in commercial construction projects and another is tackling the issue of homelessness and drug addiction in downtown Prince George.
