VANCOUVER– Bilingual babies develop core cognitive skills before they can even speak according to a 2016 study.

The study out of the University of Washington found that bilingual babies develop decision making and problem-solving skills before they can even speak.

“This study validates a decades-long trend towards bilingual education in British Columbia’s public education system and underscores the importance of early childhood education,” said Glyn Lewis, Executive Director of Canadian Parents for French B.C & YK.

“Our results suggest that before they even start talking, babies raised in bilingual households are getting practise at tasks related to executive function,” added lead author Naja Ferjan Ramírez.
