Friday morning the UNBC Timberwolves announced their year-end awards for their men’s basketball team.

No surprise, but Prince George product Tyrell Laing was named Most Outstanding Player. Laing had a record-breaking 21.9 points per game and also set new program marks for total points, field goals, and free throws.

Rookie of the Year went to Can-West All-Rookie Fareed Shittu who got fans out of their seats every night at UNBC. Shittu set program freshman records for points, field goals, rebounds, minutes, blocks, and steals.

Other award winners included Saje Gosal as Most Inspirational, Chris Ross earning the Zane Robison Award, and Vova Pluzhnikov claiming the Practice Wins title.

In other Timberwolves news, the men’s basketball team was scheduled to host their annual I.D camp this weekend up at UNBC, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the remainder of scouting trips and camps have been cancelled.

As a result, both Head Coach Todd Jordan and Assistant Coach Nav Parmar are working diligently to fill the holes in their roster over the phones, skype, and text.

Despite this making recruiting a little more challenging for the team, they know this is the right thing to do and hope everyone can stay safe and healthy at this time.
