VICTORIA — “We’re in this together.”

The words of B.C Premier John Horgan during a six-minute address to British Columbians tonight.

In a speech that sounded more like a rally cry, Horgan thanked British Columbians for “pulling together” in a time of crisis, but implored them “to keep going” and to listen to provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s advice. That advice includes washing your hands and maintaining your physical distance.

“100 per cent commitment is needed from everyone. Stick with this, it won’t be forever. The next 14 days will be key to flattening the curve.”

Horgan also thanked healthcare workers for their hard work and dedication through the crisis noting they are “moving heaven and earth” and putting themselves “in harms way” to see us all through.

He also reminded British Columbians that “B.C. has your back” and that the government has a plan for a surge in patients and are already taking steps to procure more health equipment.

Horgan finished off by saying the COVID-19 pandemic may be the biggest challenge we’ve ever faced as a province but said he’s optimistic we’ll make it through as long as we’re all committed.

Earlier today, Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed 43 newly diagnosed cases of COVID-19 in B.C, bringing the total number to 1013. Fifteen of those cases are in Northern Health and 507 people have fully recovered. So far 24 people have died from the disease in B.C.
