OTTAWA—Justin Trudeau addressed the country from Rideau Cottage this morning announcing that Canadians will be able to apply for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) later this month.

Starting April 6th, Canadians who’s jobs have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will be able to apply for the CERB. Canadians will only be able to benefit from either the CERB or the 75 percent subsidy provided to businesses for their employees.

The CERB will be distributed to those in need through direct deposit or mail and Canadians receiving the benefit, will have to confirm once a month that they are still out of work in order to keep benefitting.

Trudeau mentioned that the economic plan in place is the largest economic plan in Canada’s history.

“The government alone can’t win this fight, we all have to answer the call of duty. Each of us have to live up to our end of the bargain.”—Justin Trudeau

The Prime Minister recanted the tune we’ve heard province to province, that Canadians actions in the next several weeks, and months will determine how quickly and effectively we overcome COVID-19.
