PRINCE GEORGE—Despite the delay of some spring-time road operations due to recent cold weather and accompanying freeze-thaw cycle the City of Prince George is on it.

City crews have been removing street-side snow piles and gutter ice, in order to allow for the road sweeping operations to begin. The reduction of snow piles is essential to assisting natural melt rates, supporting sweeping and pothole patching operations, and reducing the chance of localized flooding.

Current operations:

  • road widening, ditch maintenance, and exposing drainage catch basins in curb and gutter ares to accomodate upcoming snowmelt
  • removing excess snow from areas prone to localized flooding
  • exposing and removing snow and ice from curb and gutter areas to expedite sweeping operations
  • gravel road grading
  • vegetation control
