Local artist releases song promoting COVID-19 awareness, hopes to ease tensions
PRINCE GEORGE — Music can be used in many ways – dancing, celebrating, relaxing. One artist in Prince George is taking a bit of a different approach, releasing a song to bring awareness and potentially some relief for those concerned about COVID-19.
Chinami Igueh’s song is a rendition of Kumbaya. It aims to promote awareness of the virus and ease tensions through a historically stressful time.
“Being an artist, you record songs and you leave them until the right time,” Chinami said. “A friend and said [I] should do a song [about] the coronavirus and I didn’t take it seriously but then I looked online and saw people doing their own versions and thought, I could do one.”
Chinami moved to Prince George from England about a year ago to pursue music. This, she said, is her first single. As for a message of the song, she said it would be, “Stay safe and relax.”
