UPDATE: 1 new case in Northern Health, 6 deaths in BC

VICTORIA—One new case in the Northern Health Region, bringing the total to 17 cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, provincially 55 new cases were announced today by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The total amount of cases in BC is now at 1,121 cases. Henry announced 6 new deaths today, 3 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 1 in Fraser Health and 2 in Vancouver Island Health. This is brings the total to 31 deaths in the province.

Both Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix expressed their condolences to the families, friends, care givers and communities of the diseased.

Cases of COVID-19 by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Island:72
  • Interior Health:121
  • Northern Health:17

Henry announced an additional community outbreak in the Interior Health Region at a correctional facility. This is the first facility that has tested positive in a correctional facility in the province.

As of today, Thursday, April 2nd there are 149 people in hospital with 68 people in ICU. In the Northern Health Region there are 5 people in critical care.

There continue to be 21 longterm assisted living facilities in BC, located in Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health.

641 people have now recovered in BC from the novel coronavirus.

Henry touched on the fact that religious celebrations are just around the corner and that we need to begin thinking on how we can support people’s faith without coming into face to face contact with each other.

Worldwide there are now more than 1 million cases of COVID-19.
