UPDATE: Two new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 1 death in BC

VICTORIA— Two new cases in the Northern Health Region were announced during today’s COVID-19 update.

Northern Health’s total of confirmed cases is now at 23, with four of those cases in hospital according to Health Minister Adrian Dix.

There are a total of 63 new cases provincially from the last update on Saturday until now. The new provincial total of confirmed cases is now at 1,266.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 586
  • Fraser Health: 450
  • Vancouver Island Health: 79
  • Interior Health: 128
  • Northern Health: 23

The one death was a community death according to Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, a man in his 40’s.

There are 140 people in hospital with 72 in ICU.

Henry announced another outbreak, this one at a federal correctional facility in Mission, where two inmates tested positive with the virus.

Dr. Henry mentioned that there has been a bit of a slowing in COVID-19 cases, provincially, commending British Columbians for their efforts.

Dix once again reiterated that with the upcoming religious holiday’s, British Columbians must find new ways to connect and celebrate as this is not a time for gatherings.

Henry says that our response to the virus is essential right now and that we must continue to do what we are doing, (self isolation, and social distancing) as one wrong move and the number of cases can begin to escalate.

There is a total of 783 recovered cases of the novel coronavirus in BC.
