are routines important?

CKPG News Question of the Week: Having a routine is ‘critical’ says local Life Coach

PRINCE GEORGE–This week’s CKPG News question of the week was: How has your daily routine changed since the COVID-19 pandemic started? We got a variety of answers on our Facebook page.

For some, the change in routine means working from home, for others, it means a job loss, but trying to find the silver lining, and then there are those who no longer have routines.

So how important is it to have a routine? We spoke with Katy Suik, a local Certified Professional Life Coach who says routines are “critical.”

“We are wired to respond to cues, so if your cue is to get up and shower, and that’s how you did it every day before, you need to keep doing that because if you don’t…it’s easy to get into a rut–to get mentally unwell,” she said.

Suik says that we should be gentle with ourselves right now too, lowering our expectations for ourselves and for others around us, “the standards that we have four ourselves, the expectations that we have for ourselves can be really high at the best of times but at the worst of times when we can’t possibly do it all the way we did before,” we have to change our mentality; understanding that it’s O.K. to not be able to do the things we used to do the way we used to do them.

Suik says that although difficult it is important to look for the best in even the worst of times.
