Tip of the scrub hat to volunteers

At a drop of a hat, sewing community steps up

PRINCE GEORGE – To join the fight against the spread of COVID 19 a battalion of sewers has united with the army of local medical professionals stationed at the University Hospital of Northern BC.

The volunteer sewers are armed with thread; bobbins and needles. They are on a mission to outfit the healthcare frontline workers with scrub hats.

Scrub hats are not typically worn in every department at the hospital.

Since the pandemic, many health care workers started to include the extra layer of protection for themselves, co-workers and family.

There is a shortage of scrub caps around the world. Therefore some local health care staff began making their own scrub hats. When some of the sewing community found out, they rallied and answered the call to make scrub hats.

Those who wear the caps feel protected and privileged.

Each cap shows a bit of the personality of its creator.

There are close to 50 volunteers working on scrub hats for the hospital.

Over 1000 scrub hats have been made but more is needed.
