OTTAWA—Support for communities in Canada’s north is what was announced today in the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 response update.

Almost $130 million are being put towards helping northern communities fight COVID-19. $72.6 million will be given to the North West Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut, specifically for health care needs.

Funding is also being provided to air transport companies in order to ensure that food and supplies continue to arrive in Canada’s north.

Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau touched on entrepreneurs in those northern communities, saying that some of them have been hit hard.

The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency is receiving more money from the government to support entrepreneurs who might not meet other government support qualifications already during the COVID-19 crisis.

Trudeau mentioned that over the weekend Canada received a new shipment of Personal Protective Equipment, four planes worth of N95 masks. The 1.1 million maks are currently being validated before being sent out across Canada in the next few days.

430,000 Canadians have been tested for COVID-19.
