PRINCE GEORGE – The weeks of isolation for people living in China has ended. The battle against the coronavirus meant residents were locked down in their homes and restricted to travel within their communities.

We reached out to Trevor Metz who is on one of those residents living in Beijing and who was once a reporter at CKPG news.

Trevor Metz has lived and worked in Beijing China for years. Beijing is around 1000 kilometres north of Wuhan; the epicentre for where coronavirus began.

Health officials started to see cases of the virus in Beijing shortly after it was discovered in Wuhan. Trevor Metz, a business owner in Beijing, says the government imposed a swift lockdown on businesses shortly thereafter.

According to Metz, during the height of the battle against the virus, Chinese authorities tightened controls on travel. He says people were tracked with a smartphone application which helped track the virus.

Even though government officials have slowly allowed residents to return to business as usual, some residents continue to be cautious.

Metz says he is glad to see activity and people move about on the streets of Beijing. Join us for part two with our conversation with Trevor Metz tomorrow on how the post COVID -19 is affecting his business.
