SD57 receives over 2,000 respondents to KRSS naming questionnaire
PRINCE GEORGE – The Board of Education Trustees from School District No. 57 gathered for an online forum Wednesday (April 22, 2020) night to review the summary report of the KRSS Engagement on the naming of the new educational facility in the Hart.
The purpose of the review was aimed to help trustees make their final decision on the proposed KRSS name change, which will be presented during the Regular Public Meeting on April 28, 2020.
On February 25, 2020, SD57 Board of Education Trustee Trent Derrick put forward a motion at the regular public board meeting that the Board of Education engages in the process to rename the newly constructed Kelly Road Secondary School to Shas Ti Secondary School.
Shas Ti means grizzly path in the Dakelh language noting the current Kelly Road Secondary School sits on a grizzly path. According to Board Chair Tim Bennett, the school board’s Indigenous Education Committee worked with the Lheidli T’enneh and the board, feeling this was a representation to highlight where the new school will be situated.
