Temporary renewal fee deferral for liquor licencees amidst pandemic

VICTORIA—The B.C. government announced a temporary deferral of renewal fees for liquor licencees who are experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19.

The general manager of the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch authorized the temporary extension for liquor licenses expiring between March 31 and June 30.

The extension will be applicable to most liquor licenses, with the exceptions of licensee retail stores, special wine stores and wine stores with wine on shelf in grocery stores.

The temporary extension to current licenses is not a license renewal. Extended licenses must still be renewed prior to their new expiry dates.

Renewal fees will be deferred until Sept.30th and will continue to be calculated in accordance with Schedule 1 of the Liquor Control and Licensing Regulation (LCLR) and, if applicable, section 204 of the LCLR.

Eligible licences whose licenses fall within the supplied time period, and who find themselves in financial need, mas ask for support bey emailing their request to, LCRB_COVID19@gov.bc.ca

The B.C. government will review this temporary provision as the public health crisis progresses.
