Government health officials update on COVID-19 measures

OTTAWA—This morning government health officials issued an update on COVID-19 measures in Canada.

Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam reported 62,468 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada along with 4,111 deaths.

Of the more than 62,000 cases, 27,000 people have recovered from coronavirus, adding that 970,000 Canadians have been tested for COVID-19 to date.

Tam when on to highlight that this week is mental health week and that during these times we may be feeling out of the ordinary and to remember that there is help.

According to federal minister Jean-Yves Duclos, 660 members of the Canadian Armed forces have been deployed to long term care facilities in Quebec and in Ontario. Currently members are the army are in 13 long term care homes, with the majority of the homes in Montreal. Duclos mentioned that the government is working on getting more members out to seven more care facilities.

545,000 Canadians have received an emergency loan for businesses of up tp $40,000 as of May 5th and 7.5 million people have received at least one payment of the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit.
