High volumes of B.C. residents crash B.C. Parks’ camping reservation website this morning

VICTORIA—High visitor volume on BC Parks’ camping reservation website caused the website to crash this morning, but it is now back up and running, says the Ministry of Environment.

Earlier today the province announced they were relaunching BC Parks’ Discover Camping website, which allows the public to reserve camping spots across the province.

The Ministry told CKPG News that the system was experiencing delays this morning as an influx of eager B.C. residents flooded the site in an attempt to select their camping destinations of choice.

In the first half hour alone, 800 reservations were processed, opposed to this time last year, when 1,100 reservations were processed in a day. Over 50,000 people were online at the same time trying to access the system, causing the large slow down.

The Ministry says that while the website was slow this morning, reservations still managed to get through. The site’s speed has picked up again since this morning, the Ministry of Environment saying that there are still many spots available to campers.

More than 27,500 reservations have been made as of 11 a.m. today (May 25).

In a release to CKPG News the Ministry of Environment says they apologize to those who were unable to access the system earlier this morning, and encourage B.C. residents to continue trying.

Most provincial campgrounds and recreation sites will open to the public starting June 1st.
