30th season on hold until 2021 for PGSLL

This season was supposed to be the 30th anniversary for the Prince George Senior Lacrosse League, but unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the league will have to wait until 2021 to celebrate.

The league announced this past Friday that they would be cancelling the 2020 season.

“Our regular season usually ends at the end of June and for a timeline, it’s like, well how many games can we actually get in,” shared President of PGSLL Don Wittmeier.

“The Western Canadians in Airdrie this year were cancelled and the rest of the Senior C leagues in the province have cancelled, so it was like well we’re done.”

The other major factor of cancelling the season was the availability of the facilities. As of right now, there is the uncertainty of when arenas may be open to sports resuming in Prince George, and with ice expected to be going in sometime in July, there was no chance for the league to push their season back.

However, now the league can focus on 2021 when the league does plan on resuming play, where they can celebrate their 30th anniversary.

“Usually we start prepping in January so we will wait and see until then. Hopefully, we will have a successful season and we are really looking forward to it.”
