New bridges in northern B.C. for continued safe travel between communities
PORT CLEMENTS—A $5.4 million project to construct two steel bridges along Hwy.16 on Haida Gwaii will begin in several weeks.
The move was made by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in an attempt to offer continued safe and efficient travel between Port Clements and Tlell.
The two new bridges will be made out of steel to replace the timber bridges, that were at the end of their service life. The new Gold Creek Bridge will be a two-lane, 21 metre, long bridge, eight kilometres southeast of Port Clements, and the new Geikie Creek Bridge No. 1 will be a two-lane, 21 metre long bridge, 3.5 kilometres northwest of the village of Tlell.
The construction contract was awarded to Formula Contractors Ltd. of Prince George, which will work to minimize traffic disruptions. Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2020.
