PG Farmers Market opens 25th year with some changes
The Prince George Farmers Market opened up for the first time this year over the weekend after being delayed due to COVID-19. While some adjustments were made to allow the market to open, still not everything can be done.
These changes include a limited number of people allowed inside the market at a given time and markings on the floor to keep foot traffic moving in a way to keep people distanced. As for vendors, only 36 are allowed to set up with seniority being the deciding factor. They have some changes like mandatory masks or screens while set up.
Up until just over a week ago, the market was only done online and only with vendors selling essentials like food. While many of the veteran vendors have seen their fair share of odd years, this one seems to take the cake and the main reason is fear.
“People are afraid of getting sick and it’s understandable completely,” said Lena Trombley, who has co-run Bob’s Leather for 23 years. “It’s also hard on the kids. I usually have a box of goodies to hand out but I can’t have that. For 23 years they could come and get a freebie from me but now it’s just hard on them. I’m hoping it’ll get better soon.”
