Province asks for feedback from British Columbians: Building a strong economic recovery

VICTORIA—The floor is yours.

The Province is inviting the public to share its feedback as the Province continues to build a strong economic recovery that works for British Columbians.

According to Premier, John Horgan, government has been meeting with businesses, labour, First Nations, non-for-profits and more in order to gain perspective on how the recovery plan can best serve them. “We’ve heard lots of good ideas, and we are taking action,” said Horgan at a media availability today (June 17).

“We want to hear directly from British Columbians to make sure the recovery works for them.”— John Horgan, B.C. Premier

There are three ways for British Columbians to share their ideas, experiences and priorities, through an online survey, responding to the paper ‘Building B.C.’s Recovery, Together: Have Your Say’—released on June 17 which can be submitted to: recoveryideas@gov.bc.ca, and by participating at town halls.

Building B.C.’s Recovery, Together describes the values the government considers foundational for economic policy-making in the coming months. It details the economic effects that COVID-19 has had on the province, particularly job losses.

“The recovery is going to be a tough task, and we need to be open to new ideas and new approaches. At the same time, core B.C. values like equity, taking care of each other, sustainability and reconciliation have not changed.”—Carole James, Minister of Finance

The province says that close to half of all job losses in the province due to COVID-19 have been in accommodations, food services and retail; as a result these losses have had a greater impact on women, young adults and low-wage workers in B.C.
