The Western Hockey League concluded their Annual General Meeting Wednesday and was highlighted by the league’s Return to Play Initiative.

The league has appointed a special task force in each of the six jurisdictions to work directly with the government and health authorities.

This in hopes to ensure the health and safety of players, staff, officials, and fans.

The league has targeted a date of October 2nd for the start of the 2020-2021 season but is contingent on receiving approvals from both government and healthy authorities in all 6 of the league’s jurisdictions (B.C, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Washington, and Oregon).

The WHL is also contingent on keeping and protecting the league’s integrity.

As a result the league fully intends on having a 68 game schedule for the 2020-2021 season regardless of when the campaign does begin.

In a media conference on Thursday, Commissioner Ron Robson stated they are eyeing having at least 50% of capacity in the stands when the season does begin

A tentative schedule for the 2020-2021 season should be released in the next few weeks.
