VANCOUVER—No new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region announced in today’s COVID-19 daily update.

Provincial Health Health Officer. Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix released a joint statement, reporting 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 946
  • Fraser Health: 1,438
  • Vancouver Island Health: 130
  • Interior Health: 196
  • Northern Health: 65

The new cases bring B.C. to a total of 2,775 test positive cases, with 185 of those being active cases. 11 people are in hospital and of those, five are reportedly in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported, the province remains at 168 deaths caused by COVID-19.

Two new health-care outbreaks were reported, one at the Mission Memorial Hospital and one at Tabor Home in Abbotsford. The outbreak at Tabor Home and at the Maple Hill long-term care facility (announced yesterday) are connected to the outbreak at the Mission Memorial Hospital.

“These recent health-care outbreaks are very concerning and clearly demonstrate that COVID-19 remains in our communities.”—Joint statement by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix

“Public health teams are working hard to contain further spread. While we are monitoring the situation closely, we are hopeful that we have caught these outbreaks in the early stages,” continued the statement.

Both Dr. Henry and Minister Dix say that this is the perfect reminder to British Columbians that the impact this virus can have on smaller communities with limited health-care resources can be severe. Both, urging the public to continue to practice safe health measures as we head towards the summer months, which may mean travelling across the province for some.

To date, 2,422 have recovered from COVID-19.
