Restricted training to resume for PGYSA come July

“The return to play plan that we have put forward is made up of two sections. One is what potentially restricted guidelines will be as far as training on the field. The second document outlines all distancing protocols,” shared Director of Club Operations for PGYSA Terrol Russel.

The preliminary date which PGYSA has set for the return of restricted on-field training is July 6th.

However, that could be pushed back due to potential field availability, conditions, and registration. Regardless, it is something that the Association is extremely happy about.

“It’s very exciting. I have to give the staff credit and I have to give the board credit as well for the work which they have done over the last number of months to put this together. But the thing that we love is being on the pitch with the players and actually see some sort of light at the end of the tunnel now and be back on the pitch is very exciting to see that coming,” stated Russel.

When it comes to games on the field though, that is something both athletes and parents will have to wait for.

“We have put a number of projections in place and those projections are based on preliminary what we are going to see in phases 1, 2, and 3. So phase 1 is your restricted training. Phase 2 is your small group interaction. Phase 3 would be your small group game or full-sized match play with officials. If we look at the dates in the North of projections for phase 2 and phase 3, we may not see phase 2 until the Fall and because we are facing and of course with use facing winter and the indoor season, we may not see phase 3 until the spring in 2021,” explained Russel.

For the next few weeks, the Association will be making sure their gear is all ready to go, will be working on the city when it comes to fields, and getting players all registered.
