Plan ahead: How to travel safely across our province this summer

Jul 2, 2020 | 12:12 PM

PRINCE GEORGE—If you’ve always wanted to get to know B.C. better, 2020 is your year—seeing that we can’t really travel anywhere else.

The COVID-19 pandemic has halted travel plans abroad and shown the spotlight to our very diverse province. Tracey McBride, Chief Executive Officer, of Tourism Prince George says that there is a lot to explore across B.C. but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the way we travel will be altered just a bit.

“Get really really informed, there’s lots to know.”—Tracey McBride, Chief Executive Officer, of Tourism Prince George

Planning ahead, according to McBride that will be key to travelling the province this summer. “I think we have to honour our public health orders,” said McBride in an over the phone interview, “there are some communities that are a little bit more vulnerable…just know ahead of time if the community is open for tourism.”

Utilizing visitors centres is another tip, as they can help guide you around the community you may be wanting to visit. The Prince George Visitor Information Centre re-opened its doors to the public on Canada Day, with physical distancing measures in place.

“I think it’s fabulous that we have this opportunity to really explore our own backyard.”—Tracey McBride, Chief Executive Officer, of Tourism Prince George

McBride also suggest packing some patience with you as you travel, as things will not be as they usually are; there may be waits to get into certain facilities—as gatherings are still limited to no more than 50 people.
