Vanderhoof Airshow takes a new direction

VANDERHOOF – This is Vanderhoof’s year to host the airshow, with it being held in Quesnel last year. But this year’s event will be different.

“This time around we’re doing something called a regional air hug,” explains Co-Chair Tom Bulmer. “It’s going to be a combination of you going outside to watch live performances in the sky and we’re going to be live-streaming it as well.”

While the date of August 15th has been fixed, the exact route of the “Great Regional Air Hug” has not, though it will including Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and could go as far west as Burns Lake.

The airshow is a money-maker for the Vanderhoof Airport Development Society and its president hopes this year’s event is not too onerous on the finances.

“We hope not in that all the aircraft that will be visiting will coming under their own steam. So they’ll be providing their own fuel,” explains Dr. Paul Collard. “We’re looking at possibly providing a barbeque for everybody who comes. So it will be a social occasion for a few pilots that are flying in. But we’re not allowing any admission to the airport like we would with a normal airshow.”

The airshow bounces between Vanderhoof and Quesnel and next year would have been Quesnel’s turn to play host. But, because of the present circumstances, Quesnel has relinquished the honours to Vanderhoof for next year.
