Disaster Financial Assistance available for those affected by landslides, flooding

PRINCE GEORGE — Disaster Financial Assistance has been authorized for landslides and major flooding in the Northeast region from June 14 to July 13. Disaster Financial Assistance is a provincial program to help individuals and local governments recover from uninsurable disasters, administered by Emergency Management BC.

The assistance has been authorized for qualifying claimants such as homeowners, residential tenants, small business owners, farmers, charitable organizations, and local government bodies unable to obtain insurance to cover disaster-related losses. It is eligible in the Regional Districts of Fraser-Fort George, Cariboo, Peace River, and Northern Rockies Regional Municipality including all First Nations communities, electoral areas, and municipalities within the geographic boundaries of these regional districts.

Anyone needing to utilize the program is encouraged to submit an application to Emergency Management BC as soon as possible to have their damage assessed. The final deadline is October 16, 2020.
