PGYSA back on the field for training

Soccer cleats were laced up and PGYSA returned to the field Tuesday morning to begin their off-season training sessions for players after having their Return to Play plan approved.

“It’s so exciting to be back on the pitch,” stated Director of Club Operations for PGYSA Terrol Russel.

“To be with the players and coaches again, this is what we love to do.”

Training will look a little different for players as they are designated into their own box on the pitch for social distancing purposes. However, despite being spaced out, players were thrilled to be back on the field Tuesday.

“When you see a lot of these players coming out and seeing the connection between the players and the coaching staff, it is something which we can build for the future,” added Russel.

Plenty of work has also gone into being able to return to play over the course of the last few weeks and few months. It was an entire team effort from the Board of Directors and Coaching staff at PGYSA.

“It has been an ongoing process to get going what you see here. Everybody really came together to make this happen. It was quite the adventure to build, but now that it is built we are now ready to go for the upcoming phases.”

PGYSA is currently in phase 1. If everything goes according to plan and there are no hiccups when it comes to Covid-19, phase 2 would begin in the fall.

Phase 2 would see small group training, with players playing in small games.

When it comes to full matches though, that comes in phase 3 which is projected to take place in spring 2021.
