Site C reports show increased cost pressure resulting from pandemic

VANCOUVER—BC Hydro says that pandemic related delays have led to further cost pressures on its Site C project budget.

BC Hydro filed it’s combined 2019 Site C annual report and quarterly progress reports with the B.C. Utilities Commission today, July 31, which “identify that pandemic related delays have presented further cost pressures on the budget,” says a release from BC Hydro.

According to company, the project remains on schedule to achieve river diversion in 2020 but says that there is “uncertainty with the project’s schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The uncertainty comes primarily from their ability to restart and accelerate work that came to a pause when the pandemic hit. Currently BC Hydro has begun the process to re-baseline the Site C project to determine the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the project’s schedule and budget.
