With the B.C Day long weekend here, many residents of Prince George and surrounding area will be hitting the links during their 3 days off.

For Aberdeen Glen Golf Club, they have seen a massive turn out this year despite the challenges on going with Covid-19.

“It is going really well, but not without its challenges,” shared Head Golf Professional at Aberdeen Glen Golf Club Ian Wrynn.

“The positive aspect of the season so far is the volume of people playing golf is very high. The course is really busy. Probably the busiest we have ever seen it, which is great.”

Weather-wise, though prior to this week, it had been a wet spring and summer in Prince George.

Those types of conditions pose challenges for all of the courses in the City as they maintain fairways and greens.

“The course is in excellent shape,” said Wrynn.

“However, June and the first part of July were very wet. We struggled to keep the course in as good of shape as we can. With so much rain though it made it very difficult. Some days we couldn’t even mow the grass.”

Each and every year the Aberdeen Glen Golf Course plays host to a number of tournaments to showcase both their course and golfers from around the region and the province.

Due to Covid-19 though, those tournaments are not on the calendar at the club, but that could change if some of the restrictions are lifted.

“Keeping everyone safe is certainly more important at this stage,” stated Wrynn.

“If restrictions are lifted, mainly being the 50 person group limit, we would definitely be interested in hosting some events for sure.”
