VICTORIA—Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region over a four day period, provincially there are 146 new cases of those four are epi-linked.

The three new cases brings the north’s total to 91 test-positive cases of the virus.

  • Fraser Health: 1,989
  • Vancouver Island Health: 146
  • Interior Health: 377
  • Northern Health: 91

The province’s additional new cases bring B.C.’s total to 3,787 test-positive cases. There are currently 319 active cases in the province, of those eight are in hospital and four are in ICU

No new deaths were reported, the provincial death toll remains at 195. There is one new outbreak in the health care system in the Fraser Health Region. One health care facility outbreak has been declared over, for a total of three outbreaks in the health care system. 404 cases have been residents of health care facilities while 262 have been staff.

The new cases reported over the long weekend are not a surprise said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer. Henry says that these numbers are a result of get togethers over the past month.

“We need to make sure these cases don’t result in a dramatic uptick.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer

Henry says that most cases are a result of overlapping social circles at private parties and get togethers.

Coming out of the long weekend Henry says that people need to be careful and remember where they went and who they saw over the past three days.

“Coming out of the B.C. Day long weekend we all need to pay attention to how we are feeling.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer

Community Exposures continue to take place and Henry says that the public needs to be aware of where these are occurring to see if they may have come into contact with someone, unknowingly, who may have had COVID-19. Community exposure events are posted on the BCCDC’s website.

Those who were at a location of a Community Exposure must immediately reduce the amount of people they are seeing and monitor their symptoms. If COVID-19 symptoms develop they are asked to contact 8-1-1.

A total of 3,273 people have recovered from COVID-19.
