After 16 memorable seasons in the National Hockey League Dan Hamhuis is hanging up his skates and is retiring.

Hamhuis, a Cougars alumni, was with the Cats from 1998-2002.

He was drafted #12 overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators.

The Smithers B.C product’s first stint with the Predators would last from 2003-2010. That off-season he would sign with the Vancouver Canucks.

In his first year with his home province team, Hamhuis would help guide the Vancouver Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Hamhuis spent a total of 6 seasons with the Canucks before signing a two year deal with the Dallas Stars in 2016.

Once his two-year contract expired with the Stars, Hamhuis would go back to where it all started and spend his last two seasons with the Nashville Predators.

Internationally, Hamhuis was a part of two World Junior teams in 2001 and 2002 and won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2014 Olympics.

In 1,148 career NHL games, Hamhuis compiled 59 goals and 297 assists.
