Athletes will be lacing up their skates on Monday as Kin 1,2, and 3 will be re-opening.

This is exciting for a number of different user groups who will begin camps on the opening day of ice being open in the city.

This includes the Northern BC Centre for Skating who are thrilled to get their skaters back on the ice.

“The kids are ecstatic,” stated Director of Competitive Development for NBCCS Andrea Ludditt.

“However, change is hard. So what is it going to look like on Monday? It will be a learning curve for sure.”

Since they announced rinks re-opening, it has been a busy couple of weeks for organizations as they try to get the wheels in motion for the resumption of programming.

The Northern Centre for Skating has two weeks of camps planned which will take them to September, but when it comes to programming when the calendar turns over to September, that is still up in the air.

“We will still be quite small. Doing some figure skating and some power skating because it is very easy to manage when it comes to social distancing,” added Ludditt.

Despite the number of adjustments for the skaters and coaches when it comes to their new norm and norm reality, both parties know that adjusting to the new measures is a small price to pay if they want to get back on the ice.
