CHETWYND–A Chetwynd man is hitting the road in an attempt to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Stan Fraser, is hitting the road, on foot, today (Aug.20.). From Fort Nelson he will walk all the way to Chetwynd, stopping at communities in between to help educate communities on mental illness.

“Stan’s efforts are providing an opportunity to bring the discussion of mental illness and stigma into the open, to shift society’s beliefs and attitudes that increase well-being, support good mental health and create a culture of understanding and acceptance.”–Mary Lu Spagrud, Manager of Education and Projects, Canadian Mental Health Association, Prince George

“We encourage people to get out and support his walk and talk, it’s important to remember 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness or issue in any given year – but 5 in 5 Canadians—all of us—have mental health that needs to be celebrated, protected and recognized that it is an essential part of overall health,” said Spagrud.
