Fire at abandoned gas well near Prespatou Village
Sep 8, 2020 | 12:23 PM
PRESPATOU, B.C.—Crews are responding to a fire at an abandoned gas well in northeastern B-C.
The B-C Oil and Gas Commission says the fire is small and is burning in a remote location outside Prespatou Village — more than two hours by road north of Fort St. John.
The blaze can only be accessed by air or A-T-V and the commission says in a social media post that there is no danger to the environment or the public, and the fire hazard rating in the area is low.
The federal government earmarked 120-million dollars in May as part of its COVID-19 energy sector plan to help B-C clean up hundreds of orphaned and inactive oil and gas wells.
