VICTORIA—Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie has amended her Order on bars, nightclubs and banquet halls.

As of today, all nightclubs and banquet halls across the province are being ordered to close, as cases continue to rise in the province.

“As we know, issuing orders isn’t something we do lighty it is our last resort and we have spent quite a lot of time working with industry, within the banquet halls in the nightclubs to try and put in measures that will protect people from this virus, and protect our communities from spreading it.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer

Dr. Henry adding that it is difficult to contact trace and see who may have been or may not have been infected with the virus in those specific establishments. Bars, restaurants and pubs will no longer be allowed to serve alcohol past 10 p.m., and these liquor selling establishments must close by 11 p.m. unless they are providing full meal service.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 2,249
  • Fraser Health: 3,428
  • Island Health: 184
  • Interior Health: 460
  • Northern Health: 186
  • People who reside outside of Canada: 84

The order also adds that restaurants, pubs and bars will have to lower the volume of their background music in order to keep patrons from yelling or raising their voices.

Henry adds that these orders are necessary with the increasing cases we have seen in the Province, especially as we head into the respiratory season. British Columbia reported 429 new cases of COVID-19, including 12 epi-linked cases, this afternoon (Sept.8), this after the last update on Sept. 4.

“It is the time for all of us to cut back on our social interactions…this is what we all need to do right now to reduce our risk of contracting COVID-19 for ourselves and for everyone around us.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer
