Collision between car, train kills Williams Lake resident

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A driver was killed north of Williams Lake Tuesday (Sept. 15) when their vehicle crashed into a train.

North District RCMP say the collision took place just before 6:00 p.m. at a marked crossing on Soda Creek Town Site Road.

According to a news release, the Nissan Versa was southbound when it went through a stop sign-controlled crossing and hit the eastbound CN Rail train.

The collision resulted in the vehicle rolling, ejecting the driver. The Williams Lake resident did not survive.

RCMP say the train, consisting of 29 cars and three engines, did not derail. The area around the crash site was closed for about four hours Tuesday night but has since reopened.
