VANCOUVER – BC Hydro is confirming that an employee who worked at Site C during the week of September 7 has tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee developed symptoms and was tested on September 15, and stayed at onsite worker accommodations. BC Hydro says that the employee followed all health protocol guidelines, including wearing a mask and physical distancing.

After returning home from the site over the weekend, the employee learned that they had been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. The exposure happened before the employee travelled to the site for work.

The employee did not leave camp or have any interaction with the local community.

This isn’t the first time that Site C has had a positive COVID-19 case. In July of this year CKPG reported on an employee who self-isolated after travelling from Alberta and received a positive test result from Alberta Health Services.

In that incident, it was not believed that the employee had left the camp or had been in contact with anybody in the community.

BC Hydro says given the precautions by the worker at Site C, there was a low risk of transmission in the recent case.
