PRINCE GEORGE—A Vancouver-based non-profit is helping newcomers to British Columbia continue to establish themselves in the country despite the pandemic.

PeaceGeeks has expanded their free mobile application, Arrival Advisor, to include the delivery of information in seven languages including, English, French, Arabic, Chinese—simplified and traditional, Korean, Punjabi and Tagalog.

“Arrival Advisor is needed now more than ever. Due to the global pandemic, many services have had to change their offerings or even close their doors to the public.”—Jennifer Freeman, CEO, PeaceGeeks

The app is a step-by-step information source for newcomers in their own language. It provides tailored recommendations and step-by-step guidance on topics such as medical services plan registration, schools, employment, social insurance numbers, Canada child tax credits, and settlement services.

PeaceGeeks has partnered with the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society of Prince George to provide a series of Zoom demonstrations, for newcomers across Northern B.C., in various languages, on how to use the app.

“Having a mobile resource to help immigrants access up-to-date information in their own language is an invaluable tool.”—Jennifer Freeman, CEO, PeaceGeeks

The one-hour training sessions will occur on Tuesday, Oct.6 at 11 a.m. in English and at 2 p.m. in Arabic, and Thursday Oct.8th at 11 a.m. in Mandarin and at 2 p.m. in French.
