One new case of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 161 in B.C.

VICTORIA—One new case of COVID-19 in Northern Health was reported this afternoon (Oct.2).

The north’s total is now at 318 cases since the start of the pandemic. While Northern Health may only have seen one new case, provincially we saw 161 new cases–one of the highest number of cases over a 24-hour-period in B.C.–including two epi-linked cases, for a total of 9,381 since the start of the pandemic.

Cases by health region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 3,440
  • Fraser Health: 4,791
  • Island Health: 209
  • Interior Health: 535
  • Northern Health: 318
  • People who reside outside of Canada: 88

63 people are in hospital of who 16 are in ICU. 1,302 cases are active in B.C. and 3,114 people are under active public health monitoring for being exposed to a confirmed case.

There are three new deaths to COVID-19 for a total of 238, one of those deaths is in the Northern Health region.The north now sits at a total of three deaths. There is one additional health care outbreak in Fraser Health, while two have been declared over. In total there are 17 active outbreaks in the health care system. No new community or school outbreaks were announced.

Northern Health saw an increase of 29 new COVID-19 cases this week compared 45 last week. 7,813 people have recovered from COVID-19 in B.C.
