158 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 2 more in Northern Health

VICTORIA—158 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C.

The additional cases announced this afternoon include five epi-linked cases, and brings B.C.’s total case count to 10,892, since the start of the pandemic.

Cases by Health Region:

• Vancouver Coastal Health: 3,941
• Fraser Health: 5,697
• Vancouver Island Health: 237
• Interior Health: 585
• Northern Health: 343
• People who reside outside of Canada: 89

There are two new cases of the virus in the north for a total of 343. There are no new deaths in the province for a remaining total of 250.

1,496 cases are considered active across the province, of those 84 people are in hospital, and of the 84, 24 are in ICU.

No new Health care or community outbreaks were reported. There are 19 active outbreaks in the health care system at this time.

“One of the best things that we can do to protect ourselves and those around us is to pay close attention to how we are feeling, by doing our own personal health check each day. This is particularly important if we have recently spent time with people outside of our household bubble or ‘safe six.'”—Joint statement by Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Stephen Brown, deputy minister of health

Anyone feeling unwell is asked to stay home and away from others. If COVID-19 symptoms develop individuals are asked to contact 811 or their health care provider to arrange for testing.

“Choosing to do the right thing helps to protect all of us and keep our loved ones, our Elders and our communities safe,” ends the statement.
