BURNS LAKE — Update: The highway has fully reopened.

Update: North District RCMP say one person was killed in a head-on collision late Sunday afternoon.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the collision occurred at 4:50 p.m. just east of Burns Lake.

She says a passenger in one of the pickups, a 64-year-old woman, was found dead at the scene. The two drivers were taken to hospital with injuries.

A detour is now open on Highway 16 and the highway is expected to fully reopen later this morning.

It happened at around 5 p.m. between Freeport Road and the Tintagel Rest Area.

According to Drive BC a detour is not available and emergency vehicles are on scene.

No word yet from RCMP on the cause though it has been snowing today. No word either on any possible injuries. Check Drive BC for updates on when the road may reopen.
