VANCOUVER—BC Doctors are applauding B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer on stating that wearing masks when out in public spaces is an expectation.

Dr. Bonnie Henry made the statement in yesterday’s Oct.27 address to British Columbians after 817 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the weekend.

“We all have a responsibility to protect not just ourselves, but those around us who are vulnerable.”—Dr Kathleen Ross, President of Doctors of BC

“We believe, and the evidence shows, that wearing masks is an important tool in our toolbox to help us stay safe. It is critically important to practice good hygiene and keep physical distance, but wearing masks adds another layer of defense,” adds Ross.

Doctors of B.C. launched a social media campaign two weeks ago to encourage British Columbians to #MaskUp when keeping a two metre distance isn’t possible.

“In some cases people cannot wear masks for medical reasons, and that is okay. But every little act we do – combined together – can make a real difference to containing this virus over the fall and winter.”—Dr Kathleen Ross, President of Doctors of BC

Northern Health saw an increase of 12 COVID-19 cases over the weekend.
