PRINCE GEORGE – You may remember when Matthew Church first appeared on Jeopardy! back in 2013. Church went onto win twice on the popular game show before losing in his third appearance.

Now Church is reflecting on the time he spent with Trebek saying it was a dream come true.

“The way I reacted to this was the way I would react to losing a relative or a family member,” says Church. “Even for something that’s maybe not unexpected, it still comes as a shock.”

Church says Trebek has been a part of his family since he was growing up, over 25 seasons of watching along.

Church says although for the most part, the show is scripted, but following the conclusion of the show contestants were invited to chat with Trebek.

He adds it will be a real absence when the last episode airs with Trebek as the host on Christmas Day, a show he has hosted for over 35 years.

Alex Trebek was 80 years old, and passed away due to complications related to his battle with pancreatic cancer.
