PRINCE GEORGE – The sound of the whirling Kitchen Aid is a familiar one in Chelan Howard-Gibbon’s house.

“I’ve been baking since I was little. With my Grandma,” she explains, with her Grandmother living just across the way. “And then when Meaghan, my sister, was – I think it was her 19th birthday – she asked me to make a Monster Book of Monsters cake from Harry Potter. So I did and that’s kind of where it all started.”

Her favourite thing to bake is chocolate cake. In words ‘You can never go wrong with chocolate cake.’ But there are some days she likes to challenge herself.

“I have a cake that I make that is a triple chocolate cake and it takes a really long time because there are lots of different things that go into making it. And, sometimes, I get a little overwhelmed when I have to bake for three or four hours just to get the cake part done.”

Howard-Gibbon has made it through the first round of the World’s Greatest Baker competition and is in Round Two. It’s the world’s largest online competition for bakers! the winner will receive worldwide recognition as the greatest baker of 2020, be featured in Bake from Scratch magazine, and bring home $10,000!

Now that she has made it through the first round, the nerves have kicked in.

“So nervous! At night I go to bed and I’m just vibrating because it’s been so exciting.” The final day for voting is December 10th. You can submit your vote for Chelan at https://greatestbaker.com/vote/shared/2020/chelan-howard-gibbon
