While the Spruce Kings don’t know just yet when they will be taking to the ice for the start of the regular season, they do know who will be wearing the ‘C’ and the ‘A’s this year.

20-year-old blue liner Mason Waite from Winnipeg Manitoba has been named the Captain of this year’s edition of the Prince George Spruce Kings and found out about the honour in a unique way.

“We were just having a team meeting I think the practice before our road trip and Alex (Evin) just came in before video and just kind of put goofy photos up on the PowerPoint of the start of me, Colton and Corey and that’s how we found out,” revealed Waite to CKPG.

He will be joined in the leadership group by Kolton Cousins of Sechelt B.C and Mr. PG himself, Corey Cunningham who will wear the ‘A’s.

“It is definitely an honour, but just wearing that Spruce Kings jersey, in general, is such an honour and something to be grateful for,” explained Cousins.

“It meant a lot to me,” said Cunningham.

“Being a veteran guy that’s played in this league for so long and now to be able to wear a letter and show the younger kids how it is done here and what the expectations are, it’s pretty cool.”

All three play a little bit differently on the ice and the same can be said for how they will lead this coming season.

When the Kings announced the leadership group, it was mentioned it would be finalized following the pre-season with additional Alternate Captains, however at this time the team has yet to announce who those players may be.
