More people ‘Spruce-ing’ up their homes this holiday season, ‘Fir’ good reasons

PRINCE GEORGE – There is a new trend for Christmas tree shopping, and it involves starting a new family tradition and ditching the fake festive decor.

Angel Valley Tree Farm just west of city limits say that they’re seeing a lot more early demand for Christmas trees as opposed to years past.

“I think so many people just want to get into the spirit a little earlier this year,” says Owner, Cindy Barnes. “I have at least a dozen first-timers come out last weekend which is a lot.”

Barnes says it seems that with the extra time this holiday season many are looking to start a new family tradition.

The Canadian Mental Health Association says getting into the holiday spirit is a good way to brighten your mood and get into the holiday spirit, a reason behind a growth in demand from years past.

Mary Lu Spagrud with CMHA in Prince George says the most likely reason for more people getting into the spirit earlier than normal is because it provides an escape from the COVID-19 world we are all living in.

“The Christmas season itself can invoke a lot of memories of positive and good times,” says Spagrud.

There are no worries of Prince George tree farms running out of real festive decor, you can visit the Angel Valley Tree Farm on Saturdays and Sundays, but are open mid-week with appointments.

Alpine Ranches Christmas Tree Farm say they want to remind you to give your tree a fresh cut after you take it home from the store to ensure it doesn’t die before Saint Nick pays a visit.
