PRINCE GEORGE – As we are in the festive season, the Prince George RCMP will be launching its annual impaired driving campaign later this week.

Joining in this year’s National Impaired Driving Enforcement program are officers who recently were recognized for their work removing impaired drivers off the road.

During the month of December, residents should expect RCMP traffic stop delays when driving, as RCMP will be out in full force and focusing on road safety during this pandemic holiday season.

The RCMP uses various techniques to remove impaired drivers off the road.

From traditional check stops to rolling check stops. Included will be seven Prince George RCMP officers who have been recognized for their work on impaired driving investigations and subsequently named to Alexa’s Team.

Officers will be targeting those drivers that choose to drive while impaired either by alcohol or by other drugs.

According to ICBC, approximately 22% of vehicle fatalities are related to impaired driving, resulting in an average of 67 deaths in B.C. every year.
